God’s Hand
Wouldn’t you love this to be true for you? The king had granted him everything he asked.
Okay, we don’t have a king, but if we did, that would be pretty cool. And how about this? The gracious hand of his God was on him. That’s even better!
What would it feel like to have God’s hand on your shoulder? These two verses were said about Ezra when he came back from Babylon to help rebuild Jerusalem. Here’s the passage in context:
Ezra 7:6–10 ⁶ Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him … ⁹ the gracious hand of his God was on him. ¹⁰ For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel. (NIV)
Evidently, then, it’s possible to have God’s hand on us if we’ll simply devote ourselves to the study and observance of His word. What a crazy cosmic idea, that we could have the hand of the Almighty God on our lives!
