Is God Done with You?

I had a crape myrtle tree that died. It was just a year old — I’d spent a bundle on it to make our yard look nice for our son Caleb’s wedding. I planted it that fall, but it didn’t make it to the summer wedding. Winter killed it.

I cut it down at the end of May, but I couldn’t bring myself to trash the root ball. I’d spent too much on that thing! So I tossed the dead trunk and buried the root ball in the sand out back, near a water drip, just in case there was any life left in it.

There was. This picture is that same crape myrtle, risen from the roots in 2020.

Sometimes I read through the Old Testament and wonder how God could be so patient with the Israelites. What a bunch of knuckleheads.

Then I look in the mirror.

Why was God so patient with them? With us? Why did He keep sending warnings, keep calling them back?

2 Chronicles 36:15 gives us the answer, and our Verse for the Week:

The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. (NIV)

Water the roots of belief, and be encouraged, He spent too much on you to give up on you.
