I’m Dan Cooley, a pastor, author, husband, grandfather, Jeep owner, and reluctant auto mechanic (those last two are the same thing).
For 40 years I’ve been serving in pastoral ministry, most recently at AnchorPoint Church in Rio Rancho, NM. I’ve recently retired, and now they call me Pastor Emeritus. I think that’s Latin for old. Don’t worry, II still have plenty of opinions about the Bible.
I write the Bizarre Bible Stories series because, let’s be honest, the Bible is full of weird, wonderful, and deeply human moments that Sunday school curriculum tends to gloss over. My goal is to make Scripture accessible, surprising, and occasionally snort-laugh funny, without losing the reverence for what it actually says. Hence: ir-reverend.
Beyond the blog and the books, I’ve had the privilege of doing missions work in Mexico, the country of Georgia, and Haiti. The bulk of my time and posts are about Haiti, a place that has broken my heart and rebuilt it several times over.
At home, I have four kids, nine grandkids, and a dog named Hobbes (yes, after Calvin and Hobbes. He has the energy of Calvin and the wisdom of neither). When I’m not writing or wrenching on my Jeep, I’m probably camping somewhere in New Mexico, wondering why I didn’t bring more coffee.
Thanks for being here. Pull up a chair. Let’s talk about the weird, wonderful, and occasionally bizarre story of faith.
