Still Feeling the Nudge?

Have you ever…

• Known you should slow down, but kept driving at 15mph over the limit?
• Known you should stay quiet, but shared a confidence anyway?
• Felt that you should apologize, but stayed silent instead?
• Felt the need to share the Truth, and wimped out?

James 4:17 says, “it is sin to know the good and yet not do it.” (CSB)

Why does Scripture have to be so convicting?

If you’ve never read The Screwtape Letters you’re missing out. C.S. Lewis’s classic follows an older, wiser demon named Screwtape training his nephew Wormwood in the art of temptation. In chapter two, Screwtape unveils this strategy: “The more often he feels without acting, the less he will be able ever to act, and, in the long run, the less he will be able to feel.”

That’s scary stuff. Every nudge from the Spirit is a fork in the road. Obey, and we become a little more like Christ. Ignore it, and we grow more calloused and oblivious to the next nudging of the Spirit.

If you can still feel God’s nudges, that is good news indeed. Now to “do it!”
