Alignment

Our verse for the week is,

Psalm 25:4–5 (CSB)

⁴ Make your ways known to me, Lord;

teach me your paths.

⁵ Guide me in your truth and teach me,

for you are the God of my salvation;

I wait for you all day long.

A couple of weeks ago we were at a church in Texas, where the pastor opened his sermon talking about alignment. Being a car guy, I could relate.

My first car was the ’62 Volkswagen Bug in the picture. Note the rattle-can paint job, covering up body work I’d patched with stolen realtor signs. I’m pretty sure I pushed that thing further than I drove it. But when it did run, it was so far out of alignment that if you took your hands off the wheel, you’d better have something to hang onto, as it would screech into an immediate right-hand donut. It was terrifying on the highway.

Life is like that. We’re all out of alignment. The world, our flesh, the devil are constantly pulling us off the road of success, and by success I mean knowing God’s will and doing it.

But Psalm 25 tells us realignment is possible. Time with God in His Word sets us straight again. Step away for even a moment, and you’ll be pulled off course. I’m convinced that we are a bit like my Bug. Out of alignment is our default setting.

Which means the only real obstacle to Godly success is our time away from God.

And that’s an encouraging truth.
