Bizarre Love

I’m working my way through Deuteronomy, the farewell address by Moses. I stumbled onto an old truth about God that I’ve known, but somehow it hit me fresh, and even a little bizarre.

In chapter four he warns the people that if they break faith with God, they will “arouse His anger” v.25. They’ll disappear from the land God gave them. The LORD will scatter them among the nations, and only a few will survive. It reads like the end of the end.

Have you ever been there? You have broken faith with God, you have been scattered from His people and you feel invisible to Him.

Or maybe it is some one you love – a friend, a child, a spouse. They seem so far from God that it genuinely feels like the end of the end.

And maybe it should be.

But here’s the bizarre truth: it isn’t.

In the middle of all that wreckage, Moses says,“But from there you will search again for the Lord your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him.” Deuteronomy 4:29 (NLT)

From there. Not after you clean yourself up. Not once you’ve earned your way back. From there, if you seek God, you will find Him.

That’s not a god we could make up. That’s our relentless God. A love so great, it sounds bizarre.

Be encouraged,

Dan
