Anxiety Confession

Confession time. I’m feeling a little anxious. It is one month until my planned retirement, there is tons to do, and then… what? That brings me to my verse for this week.

Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Pretty straightforward, right? Paul gives us four words that describe how to bring our anxiety to God. I’m sure he had to apply his own words plenty of times.

  1. Prayer – Simply talking to God, wishing with God. Simple enough, no fancy language required..
  2. Petition – Requesting, even begging for an answer to a specific need. Whatever is causing our anxiety, whatever is keeping us up at night we can and should bring to Him.
  3. Thanksgiving – Less of an action than an attitude. This word speaks of a settled gladness, knowing that if God gave His own Son for us, He will not hold back on giving us what is best now. Romans 8:32
  4. Requests – A definite, bold ASK. To think that we can ask the Creator for anything, wow.

The promised result is not getting everything that we ask for exactly the way we want it. The result is peace A peace that comes from trusting the God who loves us without end to see us through to the end.

Be encouraged,

Dan
